"In order to be a mentor, and an effective one, one must care. You must care. You don’t have to know how many square miles are in Idaho, you don’t need to know what is the chemical makeup of chemistry, or of blood or water. Know what you know and care about the person, care about what you know and care about the person you’re sharing with." — Maya Angelou

What is Mentorship?

Mentorship is an intentional relationship over a predefined time, during which a mentee receives the required guidance from a mentor, towards achieving set mentorship goal(s). The mentor may be older or younger than the person being mentored, but she or he must have the required expertise, experience or network.

What is Mentorship goal?

A "mentorship goal" is the objective or purpose of mentorship. It is the end result the mentee seeks to achieve. This must be stated and agreed ahead of each mentorship program or relationship.

Why is it important to be mentored…

It is important to be mentored so you are driven to envision and prospect beyond your comfort zone. Mentees are able to learn from their mentors successes and mistakes and often leverage on their networks. Mentoring is also a great opportunity to establish relationships with others who have gained broader perspectives, acquired unique experiences and made some impact in the world. This in itself presents an opportunity that can lead to other greater ones.
